Henry Liddell Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

The Very Rev. Henry George Liddell (February 6, 1811 - January 18, 1898) was Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, Dean of Christ Church, Oxford, and co-author (with Robert Scott) of the monumental work A Greek-English Lexicon, which is still in use to this day.

Parents and Grandparents

His paternal grandparents were Henry George Liddell, 5th Baronet Liddell (November 25, 1749 - November 26, 1791) and his wife Elizabeth Steele. Their eldest son was Thomas Henry Liddell, 1st Baron Ravensworth (February 8, 1775 - March 8, 1855).

Their younger son was a senior Reverend Henry George Lidell, Rector of Easington (born before 1791 - March 9, 1872). He was married to Charlotte Lyon (born before 1794 - January 30, 1871). She was herself daughter to the Honorable Thomas Lyon (c. 1741 - September 13, 1796) and his wife Mary Elizabeth Wren (d. May 13, 1811).

Marriage and Children

On July 2 , 1846, Henry married Lorina Reeve (d. June 25, 1910). They were parents to eight children:
