Gundam is a collective term for the official Universal Century (UC) series like Mobile Suit Gundam and Alternate Universe (AU) series, such as Gundam Wing, made by Sunrise Inc It is one of the longest running series of animes that feature giant robot mecha in Japan.
Gundam manga is published in English by a variety of companies, such as Viz Communications, Del Rey Manga, and TokyoPop, among others.

Most early Gundam works take place in the Universal Century world, which is considered the most developed Gundam world. Later some series take place in alternate worlds: G Gundam takes place in the Future Century calendar system, Gundam Wing takes place in the After Colony calendar system, Gundam X takes place in the After War calendar system, ∀ Gundam; takes place in the Correct Century calendar system (which can be seen as the distant future of the Universal Century), and Gundam Seed takes place in the Cosmic Era.
