Grantha Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
Grantha is one of the ancient scripting systems that was prevalent in South India. It has supposedly evolved from Brahmi, another ancient scripting system.
When Sanskrit did not have a written form, south Indians wrote it using Grantha scripts and the north Indians used other scripting systems. Of late, Devanagari script is widely used to write Sanskrit texts.
It is suggested that Tamil was also written using Grantha script at some point in time, but currently Tamil has its own script system.
There have been attempts to mix Sanskrit words into Tamil in the past. Even though there are well-defined rules for writing foreign loan words in Tamil, a small number of people use the letters from the Grantha script for writing such words.
