Goal judge Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
A Goal judge in ice hockey is an official who determines if a player has scored a goal by determining whether or not the puck has crossed the goal line completely and within the time the game is in play. They are positioned directly behind the goalie net outside the hockey rink. For arenas so equipped, the goal judge turns on a red light behind the goal to let everyone know that a goal has been scored. The goal judge provides an opinion to the referee on the validity of the goal (i.e. whether the puck cross the line). The referee retains final authority and can override the opinion of the goal judge.
