Gig Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
Gig can mean a number of things:
- In common speech, a gig can refer to a one-time job. Musicians, for example, can refer to a paid performance as a gig, as in the violist joke "What is the difference between a violist driving to town, and a plumber driving to town? Answer: the plumber is driving to a gig."
- Gig can also refer to a gigabyte, meaning either or bytes; for the former gibibyte was made official by IEC, but as of 2003 it has not been widely adopted
- A gig is also a term for a light carriage, generally with two wheels and drawn by a single horse; due to the rarity of such vehicles, it has now become obsolete.
- A gig is also a sort of spear with multiple barbs, used to spear frogs and fish.
- A gig is also a related sort of fishing tackle, a net of sorts with multiple hooks that snare the gills of passing fish; compare gill net.
