The native sports of Ireland. Principally Hurling and Gaelic Football. They are governed by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). They were brought into vogue during the Irish national revival of the pre-World War I period, and today enjoy a wide popularity in the Irish Republic. Their base of supporters in the North is mostly limited to the nationalist community.
