Frederick Neuhouser Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
Frederick Neuhouser is Professor of Philosophy at Barnard College, Columbia University. Prior to joining Columbia as a faculty member, where he was a doctoral student, Professor Neuhouser taught at Harvard, University of California, San Diego and Cornell.
Professor Neuhouser's teaching and research focus on German Idealism and Continental Social Theory. His first book Fichte's Theory of Subjectivity (Cambridge UP) was published in 1990. His recent book Actualizing Freedom: Foundations of Hegel's Social Theory (Harvard) argues for the centrality of 'social freedom' in Hegel's political thought. His current work is centred on Rousseau, especially on notions of recognition, self-love (amour propre) and rationality.
