Ewald André Dupont (1891-1956) was a German movie director.He was born on December 25, 1891 in Leitz, Saxony, Germany and was one of the founders of the German film industry.
A columnist for a newspaper, in 1916, Dupont became a screenwriter and began directing his own crime-story scripts in 1918. After several successes in his native Germany in silent films, he worked in London, England and in Hollywood, Califoria during the experimentation period for sound in film.
Dupont directed English language films under the name E.A. Dupont and his 1929 film Atlantic is seen as one of the most innovative uses of sound technology available at the time.
After his successes in the England, Dupont returned to Hollywood in 1933. He died there on December 12, 1956.
