Establishment of religion Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
Establishment of religion refers to investing political power in a particular religious faith or body. Thus, an established religion is one which citizens of a nation are compelled to support, profess faith in, or follow.Although nowadays associated primarily with Islamic states, established religion was also a hallmark of European countries with established various Christian churches, a practice which gradually dwindled after the Reformation.
In the United States, the Constitution both forbids the establishment of religion and guarentees individual freedom of religion. That clearly means the government cannot favor one faith over another. Some advocates believe it also should mean that the government must not promote religion in general; the latter view has not been an obstacle to the employment of chaplains in the military or even local police forces.
