Details, Explanation and Meaning About Elgin, Moray

Elgin, Moray Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Elgin is the largest town in Morayshire (also called Elginshire), Scotland and that county's county town. In 2001, it had a population of 20 829.

It is traditionally regarded as a city on account of having been at one time the chief town of the diocese of Moray, although the lack of a royal charter makes this irrelevant.

The former cathedral has only fragmentary ruins left, though these give some hint of its former glory.

The town has a station on the Aberdeen to Inverness line, and stands on the A96 road between the same places. The nearest airport is at Inverness.
