El Toro Y Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
The El Toro "Y" is a freeway interchange in Orange County, California that merges Interstate 5 and Interstate 405. It is also the southern terminus of the 405. At the merge point, the interchange has eight to ten lanes in each direction, and is one of the nation's largest.The "Y" was severely over-crowded and slow-moving in the early 1990s, until the California Department of Transportation completed a massive construction project to double the number of lanes. The project was necessitated by a housing boom in southern Orange County, as more people from L.A. and Orange County moved south of the interchange.
