]] Egill Skallagrímsson (also Egill Skalla-Grímsson) was a skald, chieftain and warrior. He was born on Iceland the year 910 and died some time around the year 990. Egils saga (attributed to Snorri Sturluson, 1179 - 1241) tells the tale of his deeds. Egill was the son of Skalla-Grímur Kveldúlfsson (the bare Grímur) and Bera Yngvarsdóttir. When Grímur arrived to Iceland he setteled at Borg, the place where the coffin of his father landed. Grímur was a famous worrier and an enemy of Harald Fairhair of Norway (Haraldur konungur hinn hárfagri). Egill made his frist poem being three years old. The saga covers a long time period starting in Norway with the life of Egils grandfather Úlfur called Kveld-Úlfur (the evening wulf) trough the life of his father Skalla-Grímur (the bare Grímur), the childhood of Egill, his vojages to Scandinavia and England, his fights and friendships, his old age and the furter story about his family. Before Egill died he hided his silver treasure near Mosfellsbær. Egill was and is very popular in Iceland.
