Born in San Francisco de Macoris, he began to play tennis at the age of seven. As a junior tennis player, he was a multiple time winner of the Copa Cibao as well as the National Tennis Championship. In 1990, Mr. Acosta-Diaz migrated to the United States, where he continue to play tennis, but this time representing the State of New York. He qualified to represent New York State and train with the tournament team of the New York Junior Tennis League. He then played college where he represented John Jay College.
