Edale Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
Edale is a small village in the Derbyshire Peak District, England. It is probably best-known as the southern end of the Pennine Way.Historically, Edale was the name of the valley of the River Noe. Settlement in the valley consists of several booths, originally shepherd's huts, which have developed into the hamlets of Barber Booth, Grindsbrook Booth, Ollerbrook Booth and Nether Booth, strung along the valley of the River Noe. After a railway station on the Sheffield-Manchester line was opened at Grindsbrook Booth, this became known as Edale, and more loosely, all the settlements in the valley are referred to as the village of Edale.
There is a youth hostel in the village to cater for the steady stream of walkers, as the Edale area is excellent walking country, the village being almost surrounded by the plateau of Kinder Scout and the hills of Lose Hill, Hollins Cross and Mam Tor.
