Eastern Mediterranean University is located in the northern part of Cyprus. It has 18 departments offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as a research infrastrucure. Its library contains the largest collection of resources on the island.The university has a campus near the city of Famagusta. Currently the school has over 12,000 students from 40 different countries and academic staff from 68 different countries. It was established in 1979 as an institution for the Talented Turkish Cypriots to study engineering. After 1986, it was converted to a state run university.
Some specific departments are considered of high quality, including Engineering, English Literature, and Mathematics.
