East Pakistan was the eastern region of Pakistan, created from the eastern half of the Bengal region of British India in 1947.Tensions arising from the discontinuous distance, as well as ethnic differences, between the Bengali-speaking East Pakistan and West Pakistan, led in 1971 to a civil war, in which India eventually intervened in what became the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, and led to East Pakistan becoming the independent state of Bangladesh.
