- In Norse mythology, Dvalin was a dwarf, known primarily for having invented runes. He also made Sif's golden wig, Gungnir (a spear) and Skidbladnir (a ship).
- Dvalin was also the name of one of the four stags who fed on the tree Yggdrasil.
