Domitia Lepida Major (19 BC – June 59 AD) was the oldest child to Antonia Major and Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus. She was the oldest granddaughter to Mark Antony and Octavia; a great-niece of Caesar Augustus; second cousin to Emperor Caligula; first cousin to Emperor Claudius; aunt to Empress Messalina; aunt to Emperor Nero and was the oldest grandchild to Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus and Aemilia Lepida.She married Decimus Haterius Agrippa. Agrippa was the son of the impressive orator and Senator Quintus Haterius and died in 27 AD. Agrippa, while Tribune, vetoed proposals, was consul in 22 AD and later became senator. At one time, Agrippa strongly urged the Emperor Tiberius to nominate a limited amount of political candidates from each family. Agrippa died in 32 AD, as a victim of Tiberius' reign of terror.
Domitia and Agrippa's son Quintus Haterius Antoninus became consul in 53 AD. Between 57-58 AD, as senator he squandered his inheritance. Domitia in 33 AD married the witty, wealthy and influential Gaius Sallustius Passienus Crispus. Crispus was the adopted grandson and biological great-great nephew of the historian Sallust.
After January 41 AD, the Emperor Claudius asked Domitia and Crispus to divorce, so Crispus could marry Domitia's formal sister-in-law Agrippina the Younger, who recently returned from exile. Agrippina the Younger had her son Lucius Domitius (Nero) to care for. So Crispus became a husband and stepfather. In January 40 AD, Lucius' father Gnaeus Domitius, who was Domitia's younger brother, had died of dropsy. Her younger sister cared for Lucius.
In the reigns of Caligula, Claudius and Nero, Domitia became an influential rival of Agrippina the Younger. Her nephew in June 59 AD poisoned Domitia. She was confined to a bed with severe constipation. Doctors gave her a fatal strength of laxative. Domitia's property was seized and her will was torn up, before she was quite dead.
