Director of National Intelligence Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) is the proposed title of United States cabinet-level post that would split the post of Director of Central Intelligence into two separate positions: the DNI, which would lead all segments of the Intelligence Community, and a Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (DCIA) to serve as head of the CIA. Creating this post was one of the recommendations by the House-Senate Intelligence Committee investigating the September 11 attacks.

This change will occur with the passage of Senate bill S. 190 Intelligence Community Leadership Act of 2003 [1], which was been sponsored by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) and was introduced January 16, 2003. On June 14, 2004 Senators Bob Graham (D), Trent Lott (R), Barbara A. Mikulski (D), Jay Rockefeller (D), Olympia J. Snowe (R) and Ron Wyden (D) all became cosponsors of S. 190. The bill has been referred to Select Committee on Intelligence.
