Crease in ice hockey is a volume of space in an ice rink directly in front of the goalie net as indicated by painted red lines on the rink surface. The crease extends vertically to the height of the crossbar of the goal net (4 ft). In international hockey the crease is a semi-circle with a radius of 1.8 m, while in NHL (National Hockey League) rules it is a rectangle 8 ft wide with sides of 4 1/2 ft and a semi-circular front edge.

The concrete under the area enclosed by the crease lines is painted light blue.
