Craven Destiny Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
Craven Destiny is a surrealist statement that was issued in 2003 in protest of the Brave Destiny art show. The statement conveys a much different view of surrealism than that of Lindall and the show's participants, saying "Surrealism wants nothing less than the radical transformation of the world, and spits on anyone clinging to the repressive corpse of consumer capitalism and its art specialists!"The statement concludes by threatening the show, warning that "we will converge upon this exhibition during its final days, burn the paintings, and hurl the squirming participants, ridiculous costumes or not, into the East River!" No physical action was actually taken against the show.
Some people have called Craven Destiny a "terrorist threat", while others claim that despite its harsh criticism the statement actually proved to be a positive boost to the event, bringing it added publicity. With respect to the concerns of this minority opinion in opposition to his show, Lindall redefined the overall style of art exhibited in his show as Pansurrealism.
The statement was signed by Frank Antonsen, Johannes Bergmark, Daniel C. Boyer, Eric Bragg, Richard Burke, Susan Burke, Stephen Clark, Tom Clarkson, Andrew Daily, Barrett John Erickson, Jill Fenton, Sarah Frances, Brandon Freels, Richard Genovese, Parry Harnden, Dale M. Houstman, William Howe, Stuart Inman, Philip Kane, Morgan Miller, Ribitch, MK Shibek, Darren Thomas, Andrew Torch, Chris Webster, Darryl Lorenzo Wellington, and Zazie.
