Cram schools are specialized educational organizations that helps its students to meet a certain goal. For example, to pass the entrance examinations of high schools or universities. There are also cram schools to help its student to apply for foreign schools, say a cram school specialized in TOEFL or GRE examinations.These schools are usually private and especially more institutionalized in eastern Asia where education plays a greater part in average adolescent lives. There are so many kinds of cram schools in Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong, that they become a de facto parallel educational system for most students who wish to continue his or her education. A high school student may need to go to a cram school after school to master certain important courses, say English, mathematics and natural sciences.
Some cram school teachers are viewed as stars among students. They are believed to be more capable of teaching. Some teachers are also known to "predict" what kinds of questions will be asked in the examination.
