A corn chip is a snack food, of which maize corn is the main ingredient, as well as oil, salt and water. The original recipe has its origins in Mexico. Although now available worldwide, the United States is one of the main markets for corn chip products. Potato chips or crisps are one of the main competing snack foods. In some countries (e.g. UK, Ireland), the term tortilla chip is more common than corn chip.Corn chips can be cooked and used in a variety of ways. Quite commonly the chips may be served in "nacho" form, where the corn chips are assembled in a dish with toppings such as sour cream, salsa dip, melted cheese and guacamole. A more basic form consists of plain or seasoned chips (such as CCs or Doritos), which may be "dipped" in a salsa or other dip.
