Colostrum Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Colostrum is a form of milk produced by the mammary glands, in late pregnancy and the first hours after birth.

Human colostrum is watery, yellowish and of lower volume than mature milk. It is the first feed a baby has and is given when the mother breastfeeds her infant. Colostrum is high in protein and antibodies but low in fat (which human newborns may have difficulty digesting) and also has a mild laxative effect which assists the baby to pass its first stools.

Bovine colostrum is sometimes used by humans as a dietary supplement.
