In Aztec mythology, the Ciuteoteo (or Ciuateoteo) were underworld spirits of human women who died in childbirth; they were brought to the Earth from the sun in the shape of eagles, causing sickness in children. They were ruled by Ciucoatl, and can be found with her at a crossroads searching for lost children.Compare: Erinyes, La Llorona
