Central Highlands Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
The Municipality of Central Highlands is a local government area of Tasmania. It covers most of the mountainous centre of the state.
The population of the area is small and quite decentralised, resulting in a large number of small towns - Bothwell, Bronte Park, Derwent Bridge, Ouse, Liawenee, Miena and Tarraleah. Some of these towns were founded as support sites for workers on the hydro-electric dams scattered along the upper Derwent River.
The municipal area has a population of 2,488 (2001 census).
