Brushaber v. Union Pacific Railroad was a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the court upheld the federal income tax of the United States by stating that the 16th Amendment prevented the re-characterization of a tax on income from the class of indirect taxes to which it inherently belonged to that of direct taxes by considering the source of the income.
