Bharrat Jagdeo (born January 23, 1964) is the socialist president of Guyana (since August 11, 1999). He had previously been a member of Janet Jagan's cabinet, and became president after Jagan resigned for health reasons.Jagdeo worked in the People's National Congress (PNC) government of Desmond Hoyte before 1992.
Many People's Progressive Party (PPP) supporters are upset because he has surrounded himself with many PNC advisers as President.
Charges of crime, corruption, incompetence, mismanagement and nepotism have been made against Jagdeo's administration.
