Benmore Peak Observatory Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
Benmore Peak Observatory (BPO) is an astronomical observatory situated at 1,894 meters (6,210') ASL atop the Benmore range near the southern end of the Mackenzie Basin, in the South Island of New Zealand. This area is noted for minimal levels of light pollution. The nearest population centers are Omarama (pop. <400) and Twizel (pop. <1,100). The observatory was founded in 1996 and is open to both professional and amateur astronomers. BPO is 57 kilometers (35.5 miles) south of Mount John University Observatory.
