Battle of the Bulge (film) Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Battle of the Bulge is a war film released in 1965. It was directed by Ken Annakin. It starred Henry Fonda, Robert Shaw, Telly Savalas, Robert Ryan, Dana Andrews and Charles Bronson.

This fictionalized account of the World War II Battle of the Bulge has little to do with history. A SS Panzer divison, led by Colonel Hessler (played by Shaw), leads a German secret counter-attack against the Allied front. An American Intelligence officer (played by Fonda) is trying to guess the German intentions. The battle scenes, set pieces between masses of armor, though exciting, are not very historical, other than explaining how the German Tiger tanks (here portrayed with American Patton tanks) were much superior to the American Sherman tanks. The film simplifies the battle outcome to the Germans' desperate fuel shortage.
