Ballykissangel Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Ballykissangel is a BBC television drama set in Ireland. The original story revolved around a young English priest as he become part of a rural community. It ran for six series, which were first broadcast in the UK from 1996-2001. There was a significant change in the cast between the third and fourth series and to a lesser extent between the fifth and sixth.

The name of the fictional village in which the show was set is derived from Ballykissanne, where the show's creator grew up, however the show was actually filmed in Avoce. Ballykissangel is often affectionatly called BallyK by its fans.

Series 1

Father Peter Clifford (Stephen Tompkinson), a young English priest, arrives in Ballykissangel. Father Mac (Niall Toibin) is his superior. Assumpta Fitzgerald (Dervla Kirwan), an atheist, owns the local pub.

Brian Quigley (Tony Doyle) is a local entrepreneur who in the first episode installs a high-tech confessional, complete with fax machine, in the local church. His daughter Niamh (Tina Kellegher) is going out with Ambrose Egan (Peter Hanly).
