Argo Records (UK) Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
Argo Records was founded in the late 1950s as a subsiduary of British Decca to make spoken word recordings, including the Marlowe Players cycle of the works of William Shakespeare. The repertoire soon diversified in to modern British Jazz, with Michael Garrick being particularly well represented.The label passed to Polygram, when the conglomerate acquired British Decca in 1979. Universal now controls the catalog.
