What is AROS?
AROS (Amiga Research Operating System) is a free software/open source implementation of the AmigaOS 3.1 APIss. Designed to be portable and flexible, portss are currently available for x86-based PCss in native and hosted flavours, with other architectures in development.
The project has currently reached about 75% completion after seven years of effort by a small team. If you are an AmigaOS developer or would just like to help out - grab a copy of the source.
AROS is available in a number of ways depending on what you wish to do with it.
For most users the common method is to obtain a distribution for your system - go to The AROS downloads page
Those users who wish to help test/bug hunt/develop AROS may want to obtain the source code instead. The easiest way is to download it from the page mentioned above - but if you want to get the most current version then the only option is to obtain it from CVS.
If you want to contribute to AROS then CVS access is pretty much required.
