The American national men's hockey team is the national ice hockey team for the United States. The team is controlled by USA Hockey. As of 2004 the American team was ranked 6th in the IIHF World Rankings. The US won the silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics, and won the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. Their only recent medal at the World Championships came in 2004 with a bronze. At the 2004 World Cup of Hockey the Americans were unable to defend their 1996 title, losing to Finland in the semi-finals.
