Details, Explanation and Meaning About American Le Mans

American Le Mans Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

The American Le Mans or American LeMans Series (ALMS) was founded in 1999 by Don Panoz. The American LeMans series is a series of sports car racing events patterned after the world-famous 24 hours of Le Mans. Cars of various classes, including open cockpit purpose built prototypes of the LMP classes and slightly modified sports cars in the GT and GTS classes, compete together, creating many passing situations during the race.

The premier events of the series include the season opening 12 Hours of Sebring and season closing Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Other events of the series include races at Road America, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Infineon Raceway and other road and street courses in North America.

The overall season winner in each class receives an automatic invitation to the next year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. In its history, the ALMS has been dominated by Audi, specifically Audi Sport Team Joest.
