A Taste of Honey was the name of an Americann recording act which scored one of the biggest hits of the disco era.The group formed in Los Angeles, California, and originally consisted of Janice Marie Johnson (vocals, guitar), Hazel Payne (vocals, bass), Perry Kibble (keyboards) and Donald Johnson (drums).
Their first single "Boogie Oogie Oogie" tapped into the popular disco style and spent 3 weeks at number one on the US charts in 1978. The group were awarded a platinum record for this single and went on the win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Their subsequent disco releases failed to attract attention, and by 1980 the group had reduced to a duo consisting of Janice Marie Johnson and Hazel Payne. When recording their cover version of the song "Sukiyaki" they resisted suggestions to turn it into a dance tune, and as a soft and simple ballad it brought them the second and final major hit of their careers, when it reached number 3 in 1981.
Although their further "A Taste of Honey" albums did not sell well, both Johnson and Payne have remained active in the music business and released solo albums in the late 1990s.

This is also the name of a play first produced in 1958 written by Shelagh Delaney, a film produced in 1961 and directed by Tony Richardson and a song written by Scott/Marlow published in a number of collections notably for Tony Bennett, Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass and The Beatles.
